Dr. Renu Ranjan is the Head of department PG Center of Sociology Magadh Mahila College Patna University Bihar since 1974. She did her master thesis on Socio-economic characteristics of Non-voters in Bihar and obtained her PhD in 1984. Her substantive research focuses on Scheduled caste community. She is a leading figure and Professor of eminence in gender studies, and writes on issues of women, equality and difference with a special reference to the study of social change. She has worked mainly in the field of ‘musahars' and ‘bhangis'. She was instrumental behind introducing two vocational courses on women studies and population and development in Sociology department. She has been pursuing connections between gender and population. She is actively involved in developing the teaching & learning experience of the women studies and population & development. She is supervising Masters and PhD students across a range of related interests. She is committed to the gender technology relation, student –centered learning, and the encouragement of interdisciplinary gender expertise. She has over 30 publications, which include Life Style of Hindu Widows an expression of Violence, Shaking of Traditions: Women of Bihar, Girl Child Abuse in Bihar, and Self Image of Young Girls of Bihar.
She has given guest lectures in several international as well as national and regional conferences. She has participated in Post Congress Workshop of XI World Congress Sociology. She presented a Paper, at the regional conference sponsored by Friedrich Ebert Foundation, New Delhi. She has organised workshop sponsored by Women & Child Development, Govt. of India, Buffet Foundation, USA and Patna Family Welfare Project, Bihar, World Bank (integrated Child Development Scheme Phase II), and SIEMAT, Bihar. She has been associated as counselor with Family Court, Patna, Help line Department Of Welfare, Govt. of Bihar, ASRA, Bihar, and Population Education Centre, Department Of Sociology. Dr. Ranjan is the editor of Adolescent Newsletter.
